Summary
Hiiumaa Rural Municipality covered the island of Hiiumaa and its surrounding isles in Estonia. Historically the area has been inhabited since the fifth millennium BC and first recorded in 1228. It later belonged to the Livonian Order, Sweden, Russia and the Soviet Union before becoming part of modern Estonia.
