The capital city, Hiroshima, is known worldwide for the 1945 atomic bombing and its subsequent reconstruction as a cultural and industrial hub. The prefecture features a varied landscape of coastal areas, islands, and the Chūgoku Mountains, and contains two UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
