Lichtenfels is a district in Bavaria, Germany, bordering Coburg, Kronach, Kulmbach, Bayreuth, and Bamberg. Historically, the Main river defined the boundary between the Bishopric of Bamberg and the County of Andechs. The district was formed in 1972 through the merger of Lichtenfels and Staffelstein.
