Summary
Mariposa County is located in the western foothills of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Established in 1850, it's known as the "Mother of Counties" due to its original large size and subsequent territorial divisions. The county seat is Mariposa, and it notably contains a significant portion of Yosemite National Park.
