Pará is a northern Brazilian state bordering Amapá, Maranhão, Tocantins, Mato Grosso, Amazonas and Roraima, with Guyana and Suriname to the northwest and the Atlantic Ocean to the northeast. Its capital Belém lies on Marajó Bay at the Amazon estuary and hosts the annual Círio de Nazaré procession.
