Pechenga (urban-type settlement), Murmansk Oblast

Pechenga is an urban-type settlement in Murmansk Oblast, Russia, situated near the Barents Sea. Founded in 1533 as the Pechenga Monastery, it served as a crucial point for Russian expansion and Christianization of the Sami people. The settlement experienced periods under Finnish control (Petsamo) before being incorporated into the Soviet Union in 1947.
