Summary
Santa Cruz County is located on the Pacific coast of California, established as one of the original counties in 1850. Originally named Branciforte after a Spanish pueblo founded in 1797, it was renamed Santa Cruz shortly after. The county seat is the city of Santa Cruz and it's part of the larger San Jose–San Francisco–Oakland metropolitan area.
