Vashkinsky District is located in the northwest of Vologda Oblast, Russia, bordering Vytegorsky, Kirillovsky, and Belozersky Districts. The Kovzha and Kema Rivers define parts of its borders, draining into Lake Beloye. Historically, the area was influenced by the Novgorod Republic and the Principality of Beloozero.
