Vendée is a department located in the Pays de la Loire region of Western France, bordering the Atlantic coast. Historically part of the former province of Poitou, it was a significant area during the Hundred Years' War. The region experienced religious conflict during the French Wars of Religion and later became a focal point of resistance during the French Revolution.
