Summary
Vilnius County is Lithuania's largest county, situated in the east around the capital city of Vilnius. Historically, the area belonged to the Vilnius and Trakai Voivodships of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. Following periods of occupation during WWI and the Polish-Soviet War, parts were briefly incorporated into Poland as the Republic of Central Lithuania.
