About Taiwan

Taiwan's history is marked by successive waves of settlement, beginning with indigenous peoples thousands of years ago. Dutch colonization in the 17th century initiated significant Han Chinese immigration, which continued under the Kingdom of Tungning. The island experienced periods of rule by various powers, shaping its diverse cultural landscape. The Republic of China established itself on Taiwan in 1949 following the Chinese Civil War. Today, Taiwan stands as a vibrant democracy with a complex geopolitical status.
