About country

The Bahamas is an island country located in the Lucayan Archipelago, comprising over 3,000 islands, cays, and islets. Originally inhabited by the Arawak and Lucayan peoples, the islands were first encountered by Europeans with Christopher Columbus's arrival in 1492. Spanish colonization led to the enslavement and removal of the native population, leaving the islands largely deserted for a period. English settlers from Bermuda, known as the Eleutheran Adventurers, began colonizing the islands in 1649. Today, the Bahamas boasts a tourism-driven economy and a vibrant cultural heritage.
