Basic Information
About country
Belarus is a landlocked country situated in Eastern Europe, bordering Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania, and Latvia. Historically, the territory of modern-day Belarus was characterized by independent city-states like the Principality of Polotsk, later becoming integrated into the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth for five centuries. Following the partitions of Poland-Lithuania in the late 18th century, Belarus became part of the Russian Empire. After the Russian Revolution, the Byelorussian SSR was established as a founding republic of the Soviet Union in 1922. Today, Belarus's economy relies on industry and agriculture, with a significant portion of its land dedicated to forestry.
