About Djibouti

Djibouti's history is deeply rooted in its strategic location along ancient trade routes, notably as part of the Land of Punt. Throughout the medieval period, the area around Djibouti was influenced by the Adal and Ifat Sultanates. The late 19th century saw the establishment of French Somaliland, facilitated by treaties with local Somali and Afar leaders. Following a period of French administration, the territory gained independence in 1977, becoming the Republic of Djibouti. The nation has since navigated internal conflicts and continues to play a vital role in the Horn of Africa.
