About country
Fiji is an island country in Melanesia, part of Oceania, located in the South Pacific Ocean. The archipelago consists of over 330 islands, with about 110 permanently inhabited, and covers a total land area of approximately 18,274 square kilometers. The islands were formed by volcanic activity starting around 150 million years ago, and some geothermal activity persists today. The majority of the population resides on the two largest islands, Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, with Viti Levu being the economic and political center. Fiji's history includes influences from Austronesian and Melanesian cultures, followed by British colonization and independence in 1970.
