About Kenya
Kenya’s history stretches back millennia, evidenced by archaeological finds at Koobi Fora demonstrating early hominid presence and tool use. The Bantu expansion, beginning around 1000 BCE, brought agricultural communities and linguistic foundations that shaped much of modern Kenyan society. Swahili culture, a blend of Bantu and Arab influences, flourished along the coast from the 8th century, establishing a network of trade and city-states. The interior remained largely populated by diverse Nilotic and Cushitic groups, each with distinct pastoralist and agricultural traditions. British colonial rule, formally established in the late 19th century, dramatically altered the political and economic landscape, leading to the Mau Mau Uprising and eventual independence in 1963.
