Principality of Liechtenstein
Basic Information
About Liechtenstein
Liechtenstein's history is deeply intertwined with the Holy Roman Empire, emerging as a principality in the early 18th century. The territory was consolidated through the acquisition of the County of Vaduz and the Lordship of Schellenberg. It gained full sovereignty with the dissolution of the German Confederation in 1866, establishing itself as an independent state. Throughout the 20th century, Liechtenstein maintained a policy of neutrality, navigating both World Wars without direct involvement. The principality has since focused on economic diversification, particularly in the financial sector, and has become a prosperous nation. Today, Liechtenstein continues to be ruled by the Princely Family of Liechtenstein, blending tradition with modern governance.
