About Namibia
Namibia's history is deeply rooted in the presence of indigenous communities like the Khoi, San, Damara, and Nama peoples, who inhabited the land for millennia. The arrival of Bantu-speaking groups around the 14th century marked a significant demographic shift, leading to the formation of kingdoms such as Owambo. German colonization began in 1884, establishing German South West Africa and tragically culminating in the Herero and Nama genocide between 1904 and 1908. Following World War I, South African forces occupied the territory, administering it until Namibia achieved independence in 1990. The nation continues to grapple with the legacy of colonialism and strives for reconciliation, as evidenced by the recent agreement with Germany acknowledging past atrocities.
