Basic Information
About country
Taiwan, officially the Republic of China, is an island nation in East Asia, situated between the East and South China Seas. Its geography is characterized by mountainous terrain covering two-thirds of the island, with a densely populated western plain. The island has been inhabited for at least 25,000 years, with early settlements by indigenous peoples dating back 6,000 years. Large-scale Han Chinese immigration began in the 17th century, shaping the island’s cultural landscape. Today, Taiwan boasts a highly developed economy, particularly in the technology sector, and is a major global trading hub. Despite its de facto independence, its political status remains complex and contested internationally.
