Summary
Lares is a mountain town and municipality in western Puerto Rico, founded in 1827 by Francisco de Sotomayor and Pedro Vélez Borrero. It was the site of the Grito de Lares revolt in 1868, a key event in the Puerto Rican struggle for independence from Spain. The revolt's flag became the official flag of Lares.
