Maputo

Maputo is the capital and largest city of Mozambique, situated near the southern end of the country. Originally a Tsonga fishing village named Lourenço Marques, it became a Portuguese fort in 1781 and a city in 1877. It served as the capital of Portuguese Mozambique before becoming Mozambique's capital upon independence in 1975.
