Sakai, Ibaraki

Sakai is a town in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan, situated in the western part of the prefecture bordering Chiba. Historically, it served as a port on the Tone River during the Edo period, facilitating traffic to Edo. Established as a municipality in 1889, Sakai maintains a primarily agricultural economy.
