Santa Clara, Cuba

Santa Clara serves as the capital of Villa Clara province in central Cuba. Founded in 1689 by settlers seeking refuge from pirate attacks, the city initially bore the name Cayo Nuevo. The central Plaza Mayor, now Parque Vidal, was developed following Spanish colonial urban planning standards.
