Summary

Peru's history stretches back millennia, beginning with the ancient Caral–Supe civilization, one of the earliest cradles of civilization in the Americas. Over centuries, numerous cultures flourished, including the Nazca, Moche, and Wari empires, each leaving a distinct mark on the landscape and traditions. The Kingdom of Cusco rose to prominence, eventually forming the heart of the Inca Empire, which dominated a vast territory. The arrival of the Spanish in the 16th century dramatically altered the course of Peruvian history, leading to colonization and the blending of cultures. Peru ultimately achieved independence in the early 19th century, embarking on a path of nation-building and grappling with political and social challenges.
