Summary

The Republic of Martyazo was a short-lived secessionist state proclaimed in Burundi in May 1972 during the Ikiza. It emerged from a Hutu rebellion targeting Tutsi civilians and officials, seeking to establish a political base. The rebels briefly controlled territory in Vyanda and along Lake Tanganyika before being suppressed by the Burundian army.
