Summary
The Nizari Ismaili state was a Shia polity established in 1090 AD by Hassan-i Sabbah following his seizure of Alamut Castle. It functioned as a network of fortified strongholds across Persia and the Levant, often referred to by contemporaries as the Order of Assassins. The state collapsed in 1256 after its leadership surrendered to the invading Mongol forces under Hulagu Khan.
