Portuguese Mozambique was the designation for Mozambique during its period as a Portuguese overseas province. It originated as Portuguese settlements along the African coast from 1498, later unifying under Portuguese control in 1918. The region was subdivided into colonies like Quelimane and Inhambane, with Lourenço Marques serving as its capital.
