Moldavia was a historical principality in Eastern Europe located between the Eastern Carpathians and the Dniester River. It existed as an autonomous state under Ottoman overlordship from the 14th century until its 1859 union with Wallachia. Its territory is now divided among Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine.
