Summary
Samtskhe-Saatabago was a Georgian principality in Zemo Kartli, ruled by an atabeg for over three centuries (1268-1625). Its territory encompassed the modern Samtskhe-Javakheti region and historical Tao-Klarjeti. The Jaqeli dynasty rose to prominence during the Mongol invasions, initially resisting before submitting in 1238.
