The Tuʻi Tonga Empire was a powerful maritime hegemony in Oceania that began around 950 CE. Centered on the island of Tongatapu, the empire exerted influence across the central Pacific through trade and cultural exchange. The dynasty was led by the Tuʻi Tonga kings until the 19th century.
