Summary

This sovereign state existed from 1823 to 1841, comprising the modern nations of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Initially known as the United Provinces of Central America, it adopted a federal constitution modeled after the United States. Political instability and civil wars eventually led to the dissolution of the union into independent states.
