San Salvador Department

San Salvador Department is located in the west-central part of El Salvador, with its capital sharing the same name as the nation. The department encompasses the area north of the Rio Lempa Valley and a portion of Lake Ilopango. Established on June 12, 1824, it historically formed the San Salvador Party during the colonial period.
