About Gibraltar
Gibraltar's history is marked by its strategic location at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea. Originally a watchtower established by the Almohads in the 12th century, it experienced periods of control under various Iberian powers. The territory was captured by Anglo-Dutch forces in 1704 during the War of the Spanish Succession. It was formally ceded to Great Britain in 1713 under the Treaty of Utrecht, becoming a vital naval base. Throughout the centuries, Gibraltar has remained a point of contention and a symbol of British influence in the region.
