About territory
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula. Its strategic location at the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea has made it historically significant for naval control. Originally founded as a watchtower by the Almohads in 1160, it has changed hands between various powers throughout history. Captured by Anglo-Dutch forces in 1704, it was ceded to Great Britain in 1713 under the Treaty of Utrecht. Today, Gibraltar's economy relies heavily on tourism, financial services, and shipping.
