Brunei is a sovereign state located on the northern coast of the island of Borneo in Southeast Asia. It is almost entirely surrounded by Malaysia, with its territory divided into two parts by the Limbang district of Sarawak. Historically, the Sultanate of Brunei once controlled much of Borneo, including present-day Sarawak and Sabah, reaching its peak during the reign of Sultan Bolkiah in the 15th and 16th centuries. The nation's economy is heavily reliant on oil and gas exports, making it one of the wealthiest countries in the world. Brunei maintains a unique blend of Malay traditions and Islamic principles in its governance and culture.
