Cambodia is a country located in Mainland Southeast Asia, bordered by Thailand, Laos, and Vietnam. The country's landscape is dominated by a low-lying plain and the confluence of the Mekong River and Tonlé Sap Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Southeast Asia. Historically, Cambodia was the center of the Khmer Empire, which flourished from the 9th to the 15th centuries, leaving behind magnificent temples like Angkor Wat. In the 19th century, Cambodia became a French protectorate, gaining independence in 1953. Today, Cambodia's economy is driven by tourism, garment manufacturing, and agriculture.
