About country
Malawi is a landlocked country located in Southeastern Africa, bordered by Zambia, Tanzania, and Mozambique. The area was initially settled around the 10th century by the Akafula, before Bantu groups arrived and established kingdoms like the Maravi and Nkhamanga. British control consolidated in the late 19th century, leading to the establishment of the British Central African Protectorate, later renamed Nyasaland. Malawi gained independence in 1964 under Prime Minister Hastings Banda, transitioning to a Presidential Republic. The country's economy heavily relies on agriculture, particularly tobacco, tea, and sugar.
