About Russia
The territory of modern Russia has been inhabited since the Paleolithic era, witnessing the rise and fall of numerous cultures and civilizations. The East Slavs emerged as a distinct group between the 3rd and 8th centuries AD, ultimately forming Kievan Rus', a state that adopted Orthodox Christianity in 988. Following the Mongol invasion and the fragmentation of Kievan Rus', the Grand Principality of Moscow gradually consolidated power, becoming the Tsardom of Russia in 1547. Through centuries of expansion, conquest, and colonization, Russia evolved into a vast empire, playing a pivotal role in European and global affairs. The 20th century brought revolution, civil war, and the establishment of the Soviet Union, profoundly shaping Russia's political and social landscape.
